Lula Issue#7

I think i've gushed about Lula somewhere in this blog before.

For those who dont know, Lula is just this really pretty wonderful magazine, bi-annual, but worth ever penny. Low in advertising, but high in originality. This issue is fairly different from the last as the colours are much darker - and a lot of black involved, but thats perhaps because its the A/W copy.

The latest copy, weirdly, had two covers. At first when my friend showed me in the shop, we got extremely confused about it, but both ended up getting the same cover:

As i dont own a scanner, i have to rely on the internet to find (good quality) scanned images, and i got these from the facebook LULA group - if you look through all the uploaded photos on that group, you'll find MY version of a photo they had in issue #6, dunno, thought i'd tell you :)

Seriously, Lula is REALLY worth it, especially if you're into the arty/dreamy/fashion photo styling. I got my copy from Borders.

Last bit, regardless of what time it said i posted this, its actually about 2hours later because i went late-late-night food shopping with the parents, and uh... you know, we paid for it, me and my dad walking out to put bags into the back of the car, and well, just as we were coming out, i usually run with the trolley and then 'fly' my way to the car, i FELL. Oh man, i dont know what happened but right near the car the trolley rolled, causing me to roll. My knee still stings a tiny bit. I must've scared the crap out of my dad but all i was thinking was 'this is embarrasing/shit, get the bags into the car before my mum sees this and goes ape shit/i hope i get into trouble/man, that was pretty jokes'. I was deprived of that falling of my bike and hurting myself stuff. Now i need to fish out my old skateboard out and give it another go, i didnt react as badly as i thought i would in a flying-off-somewhere-to-the-ground type situation...

Thank you for the Happy Birthday stuff, my birthday SUCKED although my friend got me this really cool Owl necklace pendant, i just need the chain, i'll take a picture of it soon :)

Seriously though, Lula is worth buying!!!!!!

Interview

My first interview is on the 17th. I can't do it! I don't have a lot of work, especially fashion based sheets, so im gona work like a bitch this up-coming days, and along with that I have to work on my Statement of Intent and my current project which I HAVE to pass otherwise i'll be given an extra two weeks to 'complete' it and then can I start my Final Project.

So, as promised, I have MY version of the fashion picture thing taken from Lula mag.

The general picture is from the magazine, but I stencilled in the title of the shoot, 'Can't You Hear My Heartbeat' and added glitter to the background, obviously. Oh, and added labels of where the pieces of clothing/jewellery, the model was photocopied but I did a faint wash of colour over her dress, eyes and lips.

Earlier, well it's like early sat. morning today, but earlier yest, my friend - the one I sold this piece in theory to - made me spray paint his top with the stencil. Impulse idea too I'd guess. Mad, but hey, that's what Fine Artists do. Yeah, he's our little Fine Art-er.

I'm going to do another sheet or two like this, painting the background with photocopied model. Then i'll reverse the idea with photocopied background and drawn model. I really don't know what they want from portfolio. I just know I NEED an interview. It'll suck majorly if I don't get it.

I'm going to London tomorrow, i'll go to Borders and see if the new i-D magazine is out yet, just some decent magazines to get some illustration ideas from.

A1 portfolios are a bitch. Not sure what time i'll be sleep tonight. I might have a piece of toast... watch some Superbad while I write some ideas down for general work and then sleep.

Night yo.

Across the Universe...

I'm watching a taped Joan of Arcadia so that song is stuck in my head because 'Across the Universe' - cover by Fiona Apple played on there. Ah, how my mind works in it's weird and wonderful way......

This song is so lovely... God Bless The Beatle (insert heart shaped thing here) :)
But anyways, back to my jabbering, yesterday during college, thinking of ideas for my portfolio work... - my current project is going sooooo bad, i'll rush some shitty work for my up-coming assessment... but yeah, I started a piece and after a while of drawing the image - I brought back the piece thinking I was going to work on it, but sadly I couldn't because I needed my weird stack of tissue paper to finish the piece but it's ok now, i've resolved the issue of how i'm going to finish the piece if I don't find the tissue paper, yes this is the shorter reason of why - It still wasn't going right so I decided to do another piece. I haven't got an actual picture of my finished piece, but for now this is the image I was working from...

This is the original picture taken from the current issue of Lula, the photoshoot 'Can't You Hear My Heartbeat?', this is my favourite picture of the whole shoot, some pictures I don't really like at all, but this is my fave deffo.

I'll upload MY version of it tomorrow, I need to upload stuff for my deviantART too, i've been such a bad deviantART-er, i've only got ONE image and it was uploaded there last october when I started the account.

I know, I know, I've been rambling MAJORLY on this blog, sorry. This is just a fraction of how my mind thinks. It's mad.

Across the Universe - the film, I sooo have to see it! Now my memory is partially coming back to me, I do remember a brief small part of my life watching some sort of promotion but not enough to realise straightaway it was released in cinemas, or was it? All I know is that I want it. And the soundtrack, they're mostly, if not all, Beatles songs as far as I can recognise their titles and well, it is about the Beatles-esque thing so I guess they are all Beatles songs.

This is the random rambling blog so i'll make a list of what I want/need... but cannot afford at the moment.. or ever get....

  1. Across the Universe on film

  2. Across the Universe soundtrack

  3. Polaroid film x 40exposures

  4. A new laptop

  5. Clothes, tops mainly and a pair of skinny jeans

  6. A boyfriend

  7. Tissue paper!

  8. A slim body

  9. More time

  10. My old hard-drive back

  11. Jelly and ice-cream

  12. Reading 2008 tickets

  13. A camera similar to Juergen Teller's, I love his photography style, the way the images come up with a dreamy-ness, that's partly a reason for the polaroids

  14. New Vans

  15. Some nice colouring pencils

  16. An assortment of black fine liners

  17. A big sketchbook, like A2 or a big square one with decent paper quality

That's about it for now. I will try to blog better.

L-O-L-A Lola.

Today has been one very unproductive day. And i'm meant to have a mini portofolio review tomorrow... maybe I can try and reschedule it...? It's so bad.

Went to London though, with the Parents - Brother is away in Miami for his third year Uni, sadly, will be back in summer after the school year there has finished - and I did go to Cass Art, and therefore bought my 2 sketchbooks I wanted! Ah, if only my camera would link up to the laptop... there would be pictures.

Then, finally. Trying to look for Borders. It was a BITCH. I knew there one a branch in Charing Cross and Oxford Street, but I went to Oxford Street because Mother wanted to go John Lewis.. so anyway, The middle of Oxford Street, like the 4 corners of the world - TopShop, H&M, Ze....-something, it sells pants basically... and the other corner I can't remember, Nike Town? But yes, I went to all the other corners and right down their roads, they are LONG roads, I got the bus back up to the middle, Borders was on the Topshop side, I went there LAST. Took me about 45minutes to get there due to the walking and the traffic. But WOW. Damn that shop has some nice selections of magazines. I saw so many Vogues, some magazines I had never heard of yet they were UK editions... but I did manage to find my Lula magazine, I googled it up yesterday, and people were saying that it sold out quickly and stuff similar to that, but of what i've seen, it is some very cool magazine. Oh, didn't I mention I wanted to get the magazine? Oops, my bad, after seeing it on Magenta Peepshow I decided to curiously google it up. I found the magazine but couldn't help thinking that there was another magazine that I wanted... and having only about 10minutes until I was mean to go meet my (very late) Mother outside John.L, I rushed and faffed a bit. In the end, Amelia's magazine popped in the head and I found it, but it was the current issue and not the new issue 9 that I lust for, it didn't even have the notebook thing attatched to it :( after seeing it at the Deisgn Museum, after popping to London much after the first meeting of Amelia's and on the way back home on a very cold night, I saw this very cool girl - cropped hair black hair (she was asian, like my asian - not that this should bias any opinion but we must discuss the details), leather jacket, white fur Russian-esque hat and I think like tartan trousers. She was very cool looking and was clutching some books and Amelia's magazine. Which prompted me since to buy the next issue. Influences come in weird ways. Oh hang on. It's £10. Oh dear. Yeah, maybe not. I'm sure I can live without that and buy two magazines with that instead.

WAD - We Are Dfferent. I was suprised to see that there. I originally bought WAD in France - I went there earlier this month with my Foundation class, most of us went - and i'd thought it wouldn't be availible in the UK, it's a French based magazine? But it also has english, a bilingual magazine so I read, but yeah, it's a pretty good magazine, good amount for your £4.50. So yeah, i guess two new additions to my magazine buying, I currently on a regular basis buy Grazia and I have my supscription to Elle UK, Lula is joining on - though it comes out twice a year and WAD too, but I don't know how regularly i'll buy it. Might shop around for magazines when i'm next at Borders, broaden my choices... Need to change my room around too, i've been thinking of it for ages now, but maybe when I get my next assessment over and i'm on my FMP then i'll change it and stuff.

Damn I need a portfolio case. And a place in my first choice Uni.
